Characteristics And Performance

The RS15 is a double-acting, o-ring energized, rotary swivel seal designed to be used to seal outer diameters of shafts, bores, swivels, and other applications with rotating or oscillating movement. The RS15 rotary seal has one or two machined grooves in the face ring, depending on the face-ring cross-section, that function to improve sealing against the surface while trapping lubrication and reducing surface contact area, thereby reducing running friction. The o-ring serves to energize the seal face ring, exerting a designed downward force, and also provides static sealing of the housing.

This seal has a specially designed circular inner recess that provides for maximum o-ring contact area to the inner diameter of the seal face, thereby minimizing the possibility of sealing components spinning relative to each other. The standard RS15 seal face includes pressure notches, which makes the seal very responsive to changes in pressure. Made from exclusive or HCF PTFE materials, the RS15 rotary seal is energy-efficient due to its low-friction qualities and eliminates any potential sticking on start-up.

Applications

Rotary & oscillating movement sealing: Double‑acting, O‑ring energized rotary swivel seal for sealing shaft OD, bore, swivel joints, center pivots and other rotating/oscillating components; fits low‑to‑medium speed rotary and oscillating mechanisms.

Hydraulic swivel joints & center pivots: Ideal for center swivel joints in construction machinery, agricultural equipment and aerial work platforms, enabling rotary transmission of high‑pressure hydraulic oil between chassis and upper structure with fast pressure response and reliable low‑pressure sealing.

Medium‑high pressure hydraulic rotary systems: Rated up to 300bar; pressure notches ensure quick response to pressure and direction changes; used in hydraulic motors, rotary actuators and servo rotary mechanisms.

Low friction, no stick‑slip starting: Made of HCF PTFE for low friction and zero stick‑slip on start‑up, energy‑efficient for precision rotary and frequent start‑stop hydraulic equipment.

Wide temperature & multi‑fluid environments: Operates from -45°C to 200°C; compatible with mineral oils, synthetic esters, water‑based fluids; not suitable for phosphate esters; ideal for metallurgy, marine and offshore equipment.

Low‑to‑medium speed rotary mechanisms: Max speed 2m/s; used in machine tool indexers, rotary tables, injection molding core‑pullers, hydraulic grapples and joint cylinders.

Anti‑spinning, long‑life applications: Internal circular recess maximizes O‑ring contact area to minimize relative spinning; superior wear resistance for long service life in continuous rotary and low‑maintenance equipment.
