RS23
| Temp range | -45°C~200°C |
The RS23 is a high-performance, single-acting rotary shaft oil seal featuring a dual-lip configuration designed for comprehensive fluid retention and superior contaminant exclusion. It consists of a primary elastomeric sealing lip energized by an integrated metal garter spring, paired with an auxiliary dust lip (wiper lip) located on the atmospheric side. Engineered for demanding dynamic rotational environments, the RS22/RS23 design architecture ensures tight radial contact pressure against the rotating shaft while preventing external dirt, dust, and moisture from compromising the primary sealing interface.
The main body of the seal is molded from premium industrial elastomers chosen based on application requirements, typically Nitrile Rubber (NBR) for standard duties, Fluoroelastomer (FKM) for high-temperature and harsh chemical applications, or Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR) for superior mechanical strength and wear resistance. The integrated radial garter spring is fabricated from high-tensile carbon steel or corrosion-resistant stainless steel (such as SUS304), providing consistent elasticity and long-term tension without suffering from material relaxation or media-induced degradation.
The advanced dual-lip cross-section of the RS23 provides critical operational advantages:
- Dual-Lip Protection: The primary spring-energized lip maintains a precise micro-hydrodynamic oil film to lock fluid in, while the secondary non-spring dust lip blocks external debris, significantly extending the service life of the main seal.
- Optimized Radial Force: The garter spring counteracts elastomer cold flow and thermal expansion, ensuring constant, uniform contact pressure against the shaft surface over time.
- Shaft Eccentricity Accommodation: Designed with a flexible hinge area, the seal body dynamically flexes to accommodate minor shaft runout, misalignment, or vibration without allowing leakage gaps to form.
- Secure Bore Retention: The robust outer profile establishes a reliable static seal within the housing bore, ensuring the seal remains firmly fixed and aligned during high-frequency rotational operations.
The RS23 dual-lip oil seal is widely deployed across critical power transmission and fluid handling systems:
- Industrial Rotary Machinery: Heavy-duty gearboxes, speed reducers, electric motors, and mechanical drive systems.
- Fluid Power & Pumps: Industrial processing pumps, mixers, agitators, and hydraulic system components.
- Automotive & Heavy Duty: Vehicle axles, wheel hubs, crankshafts, transmission outputs, and power take-off (PTO) units.
- Challenging Environments: Agricultural machinery, construction equipment, and mining tools operating in dusty, dirty, or outdoor conditions where aggressive contaminant exclusion is vital.
