B06
| Temp range | -60°C~230°C |
The B06 profile represents a highly specialized, single-acting non-metallic backup ring featuring an inverted triangular (wedge-shaped) cross-section. Explicitly engineered to protect elastomeric sealing elements against catastrophic gap extrusion under fluctuating or severe pressure conditions, its geometric profile creates a highly responsive, space-optimized mechanical barrier. While providing no independent fluid sealing function, the B06 profile acts as a rigid, sacrificial structural support wall on the low-pressure side of the groove. Unlike the standard flat backing action of rectangular backup rings, the B06 utilizes a unique orientation of its wedge geometry to dynamically close hardware extrusion gaps under load.
The solid wedge-shaped body is precision-machined or molded from high-modulus, advanced engineering plastics, most commonly Virgin Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), carbon-filled or bronze-filled PTFE compounds, Polyoxymethylene (POM), or high-strength Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU). The chosen compound provides exceptional shear resistance, high compressive strength, and minimal cold flow tendencies under intense mechanical load. It operates reliably within a wide temperature spectrum from -50°C to +135°C (up to +200°C when utilizing high-spec fluoropolymer variants) and demonstrates complete chemical compatibility with standard mineral hydraulic oils, synthetic lubricants, water-glycol fluids, and aggressive process chemicals.
The specialized inverted triangular configuration delivers a highly efficient “wedge effect” under system pressure:
- Inverted Dynamic Gap Bridging: When internal fluid pressure forces the primary elastomeric seal against the flat vertical face of the B06 ring, the material shifts along its inclined hardware mating surface. This action drives the extended wedge apex directly into the clearance gap on the low-pressure side, sealing off the extrusion path.
- Preserved Sealing Geometry: By reacting dynamically to sudden pressure fluctuations, it prevents the primary elastomeric seal from flattening, twisting, or distorting inside the installation groove.
- Harsh Cycle Protection: This robust structural cross-section comfortably elevates the pressure-handling capacity of standard elastomeric seals up to 50 MPa or higher. It completely eliminates micro-shaving and nibbling failures in applications characterized by large hardware clearance gaps, severe pressure spikes, or high-frequency pressure reversals.
The B06 inverted triangular backup ring is widely specified across heavy-duty industrial, mobile hydraulic, and high-pressure fluid handling infrastructure where blind assembly constraints, severe pressure cycling, or expanding clearance gaps pose a high extrusion risk to standard seals. It is standard equipment in high-pressure SAE hydraulic flanges, cartridge valve housings, multi-stage control manifolds, and heavy-duty hydraulic cylinder piston or rod glands. Additionally, its superior anti-extrusion efficiency and low-friction wear properties make it the ideal selection for chemical processing metering pumps, high-pressure industrial pipe fittings, injection molding machines, and subsea oil and gas control valves.
