RS14-1
| Max pressure | 300 Bar |
| Temp range | -30°C~200°C |
| Max speed | 1m/sec |
The RS14-1 profile represents a premium, high-pressure, single-acting energized rotary face seal assembly designed specifically for heavy-duty swivels, top drives, and high-pressure fluid transfer joints. The multi-component configuration integrates a robust, low-friction polymer sealing jacket, a specialized nested anti-extrusion back-support base, and a large-diameter elastomeric O-ring energizer. Rather than acting as a traditional radial lip seal, the RS14 uses its flat-topped jacket profile to maintain a highly reliable axial or face-contact fluid barrier, delivering zero-leakage performance under extreme system pressures and continuous slow-to-medium speed rotation.
Sealing Jacket: The high-performance dynamic jacket (shown in teal/green) is precision-machined from advanced engineering polymers, typically virgin Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), carbon-filled PTFE, bronze-filled PTFE, or ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). These materials provide an exceptionally low coefficient of friction and excellent wear resistance.
Energizer: The integrated O-ring energizer (shown in black) is molded from a high-elasticity elastomer, such as Nitrile Rubber (NBR), Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR), or Fluoroelastomer (FKM). It provides continuous mechanical pre-load to ensure micro-sealing at zero system pressure.
Anti-Extrusion Base: The multi-tiered anti-extrusion support elements (shown in light blue at the base) are precision-fabricated from high-strength thermoplastic composites like Polyoxymethylene (POM) or PEEK, providing rigid geometric stability under intense physical loading.
Operating Range: This compound layout operates reliably across a wide temperature spectrum from -45°C to +150°C (up to +200°C depending on polymer selection) and offers outstanding chemical compatibility with mineral oils, aggressive synthetic lubricants, water-glycol mixtures, and drilling fluids.
Optimized O-Ring Nesting: The upper portion of the polymer jacket features a wide, curved nesting saddle that maximizes contact area with the O-ring energizer. This ensures uniform transmission of radial and axial sealing forces without creating localized stress points on the elastomer.
Advanced Multi-Tier Anti-Extrusion System: The static base integrates a stepped, multi-level structural locking layout. These rigid, interlocking columns act as a sacrificial mechanical barrier that completely bridges the hardware clearance gap, preventing the polymer jacket from cold-flowing or extruding under intense pressure spikes up to 50 MPa.
Low Friction & Consistent Contact: The low-friction compound matrix minimizes running torque and stick-slip phenomena, effectively managing localized thermal buildup at the interface during prolonged, continuous high-pressure operations.
The RS14-1 energized face seal is extensively utilized across severe-duty mobile, industrial, and oilfield fluid power systems where standard rubber lip seals fail due to high pressures or rapid abrasive wear. It is standard equipment in large industrial rotary distributors, high-pressure hydraulic hose reels, and multi-passage fluid swivels. Additionally, its high pressure-containment capability and structural tracking stability make it highly preferred for top drives in oilfield drilling machinery, heavy-duty mining excavators, and subsea offshore marine control systems.
