B03
| Temp range | -60°C~230°C |
The B03 profile represents a premium, single-acting non-metallic backup ring designed with a stepped (scarf-cut) split geometry. It is engineered specifically to protect elastomeric sealing elements, such as O-rings, from structural degradation, nibbling, and gap extrusion in high-pressure fluid power applications. While it provides no independent fluid sealing function, the B03 profile acts as a rigid support barrier that bridges the hardware clearance gap behind the primary seal. The precision scarf-cut design allows the ring to open slightly during installation and dynamically adjust to thermal expansion or mechanical tolerances without sacrificing its anti-extrusion efficiency.
The solid backup body (shown in teal) is precision-machined from advanced high-modulus engineering plastics, most commonly Virgin Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), carbon-filled or bronze-filled PTFE compounds, Polyoxymethylene (POM), or high-strength Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU). These premium materials exhibit outstanding shear resistance, high compressive strength, and minimal cold flow tendencies under intense mechanical loads. It functions reliably within a wide temperature spectrum from -50°C to +135°C (up to +200°C when utilizing high-spec fluoropolymer variants) and demonstrates complete chemical compatibility with standard mineral hydraulic oils, synthetic lubricants, water-glycol fluids, and aggressive chemical media.
The signature stepped (scarf-cut) split configuration provides a distinct installation advantage, enabling the backup ring to be easily retrofitted into closed, non-split housing grooves without the risk of permanent material stretching or kinking. When system pressure is applied, the primary elastomeric seal presses against the flat face of the B03 ring, forcing the scarf-cut ends to close tightly together and form a continuous, uninterrupted mechanical support wall across the extrusion gap. This robust structural cross-section comfortably elevates the pressure handling capacity of standard elastomeric seals up to 50 MPa or higher, preventing micro-shaving and significantly extending seal longevity under harsh cyclical pressure conditions.
The B03 scarf-cut backup ring is widely utilized across heavy-duty industrial, mobile hydraulic, and high-pressure fluid handling infrastructure where blind assembly constraints or extreme clearance gaps pose an extrusion risk to standard seals. It is standardly equipped in high-pressure SAE hydraulic flanges, cartridge valve housings, multi-stage control manifolds, and heavy-duty hydraulic cylinder piston or rod glands. Additionally, its superior anti-extrusion efficiency and low-friction wear properties make it the ideal selection for chemical processing metering pumps, high-pressure industrial pipe fittings, injection molding machines, and subsea oil and gas control valves.
